Postmortem Microbial Succession and Role of the Immune System in PMI Estimation

  • Postmortem interval (PMI)estimation is the first, and most critical topic of forensic science. Using specific microbiome biomarkers to quantify PMI is more accurate and can exclude bias. Since immune system have great impact on microbiome components,to better understand post-mortem changes of microbiome, one need to take immune system status into consideration. Using Next-generation sequence (NGS) techenique, such as Illumina MiSeq and Nanopore (MinION),one can quantify specific microbiome marker by analyzing16S ribosomal RNA. Also,AI technique contribute to generate more accurate model of PMI base on postmortem microbiome succession, making postmortem microbiology a valuable tool in PMI estimation.
