Abstract:
Body fluid stains are common evidences at crime scenes, and the identification of their
sources is often crucial for case characterization. Raman spectroscopy offers advantages such as rapid
analysis,non-destructive testing, and high sensitivity. When combined with chemometric methods,it
enables accurate identification of body fluid stains. This paper reviews the research progress of Raman
spectroscopy technology in the examination of various body fluids, including blood, semen, vaginal
secretions, urine, saliva, and sweat. Through spectral characteristics and classification models, different body
fluids can be identified and classified. The impacts of complex substrates and mixed stains are significant
concerns in current research, which increasingly aligns the application of Raman spectroscopy with practical
needs. Furthermore, improvements in analytical models allow Raman spectroscopy analysis to provide
information on the species of body fluids, time since deposition, donor gender and race. This facilitates rapid
assessment of the relevance of body fluid stains to cases and offers investigative leads.
