Gleaning Scattered Pearls: A Study on the Functions and Distribution of the Auxiliary Beacons of the Ming Great Wall

This paper examines the conceptual framework, morphological characteristics, and practical applications of fusui (auxiliary beacons of the Great Wall). Through a systematic methodology encompassing image data analysis, archival research, and field investigations, it reveals the widespread and continuous presence of fusui along the Ming Great Wall as a whole. Additionally, it identifies regional variations in fusui design, attributed to climatic and environmental factors, which have led to the development of diverse localized forms.
