Research on the Origins and Influences of the Architectural Form of the Second Gate of Tsinghua University

  • The Second Gate of Tsinghua University, namely the former main gate of Tsinghua College, is an important case in the history of modern Chinese architecture. Its architectural form exerted a certain influence on monumental gate architecture in modern China. Building upon an exploration of its historical background, the career of the contractor Emil Sigmund Fischer and its possible designers, this paper endeavors to ascertain the origins of its architectural form and analyze its repercussions on modern Chinese gateway buildings.
