Scale Logic of the Timber Pagoda in Ying County (Part Ⅰ)

  • This paper elucidates the design rationale of building scale underlying the Timber Pagoda at Ying County, and advocates for a systematic design in terms of both spatial form and scale. The design of the wooden tower employs a 1.2-chi module and incorporates a standard spatial unit (standard room) measuring 12 module units. In this Pogoda, the restored value of the standard chi measures 306.7mm. The modularization of the brackets adheres to the principle of dual standardization of both structural shape and scale, thereby offering a microscopic foundation for the existence of the standard room. The standard room is characterized by a dual composition of spatial form and scale proportion, enabling the spatial construction from the micro to the macro level.
