A Comparison of the Texts of Shrine and Sutra Cabinet in the Existing Edition of Yingzao Fashi in Song Dynasty

  • “Zhang-zang” represents a diminutive wooden structure designed for the storage of Buddhist scriptures and statues, respectively, which occupies a significant place in Yingzao Fashi. There exist notable disparities among the widely circulated editions of this work, and no systematic comparative study has so far been undertaken on this subject. This paper employs the methods such as textual criticism, philological research, and architectural analysis of existing editions and research findings, to conduct a textual comparative study of the “zhangzang” section. It summarizes the differences and regularities in terms of format and specific content, and further examines the origins of the editions to provide a fundamental literary base for related research.
