An Investigation of Roof Trusses Design Features in Wooden Structures of the Song and Jin Dynasties in Southeast Shanxi Province

  • The roof truss spans, constituting an essential component of structural design, interact closely with column bays. Adopting this perspective allows for a comprehensive examination of traditional Chinese wooden architecture. Through an empirical analysis of 38 instances of Song and Jin wooden structures in southeast Shanxi Province, distinct patterns in roof truss design emerge. This study elucidates key features in roof truss design, facilitating a holistic understanding of traditional wooden framework methodologies within the context of local craftsmanship techniques.
