Liang Sicheng’s and Lin Huiyin’s Architectural Activities in Kunming during the Anti-Japanese War

  • During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1938-1941), Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin moved to Kunming, Yunnan province, where they continued the work of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture (Zhongguo Yingzao Xueshe) under extremely difficult conditions. At the same time, they completed several architectural designs including Yingqiuyuan of Yunnan University and a house for themselves in Longquan village on the outskirts of Kunming. In both their theoretical and practical work, Liang and Lin paid unprecedented attention to vernacular architecture and its significance for contemporary Chinese design.
