Abstract:
In the field of historical building technology, the measurement design for
dougong has drawn much attention. As the difference between the design methods is largely determined by the composition of brackets (
gong) and blocks (
dou), this paper discusses the
dougong design for Tang-Song architecture by analyzing the composition of bracketing components. Furthermore, the paper identifies a distinguishing feature in measurement design through comparison with the design of bracket sets in Japanese Kara-you architecture.
