Gleaning Scattered Pearls: A Study on the Functions and Distribution of the Auxiliary Beacons of the Ming Great Wall

Abstract: This paper examines the conceptual framework, morphological characteristics, and practical applications of fusui (auxiliary beacons of the Great Wall). Through a systematic methodology encompassing image data analysis, archival research, and field investigations, it reveals the widespread and continuous presence of fusui along the Ming Great Wall as a whole. Additionally, it identifies regional variations in fusui design, attributed to climatic and environmental factors, which have led to the development of diverse localized forms.
