Abstract:
Northern Song dynasty marked the zenith of Kaifeng’s historical grandeur. The central axis of the city, established during this era, has endured for millennia, albeit with no tangible remains discernible above ground to this day. This paper zeroes in on Zhuquemen, the southern gateway to Dongjing’s inner city, examining its historical evolution, architectural form, surrounding milieu, and urban functionality. Through comparative analysis with other ancient capitals, the paper elucidates the significance of Northern Song Dongjing in the annals of urban construction.
