Abstract:
This paper delves into three architectural design works completed by Liu Dunzhen in Nanjing during the 1930s, shedding light on his contributions as a pivotal figure in the field of Chinese architectural history. It uncovers his responses and endeavors to create architecture in the ‘Chinese Classical Style.’ Furthermore, it summarizes Liu Dunzhen’s emphasis on the design concept of ‘order of form’ and his application of the ‘method of garden’, while also exploring the intricate interplay between his design practice and his research endeavors in architectural history.
