Abstract:
Vocational supplementary education has been instrumental in shaping the trajectory of modern Chinese vocational education, while the establishment of vocational supplementary education holds a significant place in the history of modern Chinese architectural education. Currently, educational historians have garnered noteworthy accomplishments in exploring modern Chinese vocational education, mirroring the achievements of architectural historians in the realm of modern architectural education. However, the research on modern vocational supplementary education specifically pertaining to the field of architecture is scanty. Focusing on modern Shanghai’s building vocational supplementary education by leveraging
Shenpao as the primary source, this paper endeavors to trace the evolution of this unique educational endeavor in Shanghai. Furthermore, it tries to outline its broad contours, thereby contributing to the broadening and integration of the history of modern Chinese architectural eduction.
