Abstract:
The texts and illustrations in each volume of the
Yingzao Fashi structural carpentry manual contain descriptions and depictions of “
feng”. Through a comprehensive analysis of these textual descriptions, this study identifies significant structural design implications associated with
feng. Based on the Palace Museum’s edition of the
Yingzao Fashi pattern, this paper conducts a comprehensive comparison of various editions, capturing the distinctive drawing traits of the Feng. It further delves into the intricacies of its caption and underlying significance, exploring the profound connotations embedded in the structural design pattern of
feng within the traditional logic of wooden architecture. Moreover, the paper elucidates the varying degrees of importance and control mechanisms within its structural design.
